Daily Finds: the latest state of style

Antiques on Church Street

Just off of the main drag on Church Street in Noe Valley, there are three unassuming antiques shops that showcase smartly edited objects for the home.

At Lynn: Antiques & Beautiful Things  you will find Art Deco vessels, Victorian accessories and midcentury furnishings scattered throughout the shop.
Down the street, owners Kimberly Karnes and Donna Taylor carry chic furnishings from the 1960s through the 1980s at When Modern Was, which also showcases current pieces from local artists.
Go to Lovejoy’s for lace tablecloths, porcelain tea sets and glass cake stands. Be sure to cross the street and visit their tea room, where high tea includes cucumber sandwiches, shortbread biscuits and scones with preserves and Devonshire cream.

Step Up on Fifth

Step Up on Second in Santa Monica has doubled their philanthropic efforts with the addition of Step Up on Fifth, a new Pugh + Scarpa designed housing complex. With an exterior clad in water jet–anodized aluminum panels, Step Up on Fifth provides formerly homeless, mentally disabled people with an apartment, support services and rehabilitation. The 30,000-square-foot structure has 46 studio apartments, multiple community rooms and two private courtyards. A testament to the social commitment of California architects, Step Up on Fifth offers individuals a well-designed home and a supportive community—all within a four-block walk to the beach.

It’s available in three colors, Peony (pictured), Henna and Ebony. Reupholster a chair or make a pillow with this fabric for a vintage look.
